WINEMAKER NOTES
25% New French Oak, approximately 18 barrels in the final blend. 450 cases produced, bottled June 6, 2008. 100% Terra Bella Vineyards, 100% Syrah…Steep hillside grown in the hills of the famed West Side of Paso Robles. The moderate days, proximity to the ocean, the extreme diurnal temperature fluctuation, and the extremely chalky, well-drained soils result in a Syrah that is a feast for all the senses. The color is an opaque, purply-black and the distinctive aromas include blueberry, raspberry, cinnamon and toasty oak from 18 months of indulgent French Oak aging.
Fermentation…a mix of stainless steel pump over and small bin punch down fermentation. Relatively short skin contact time…7-10 days tops to maximize color and minimize the increase in harsh tannins. The wine was gently pressed to a mix of new and 1-3 year old French Oak barrels for approximately 18 months before being bottled.
The aromas follow through onto the palate and end with mouth filling, rich, ripe tannins and a never ending finish. Enjoy this wine over the next 3- 5 years for optimum enjoyment.
